Queensland Anaesthesia - SAQ Analysis

Home

Key Points
[1] Repeat Questions make up a significant part of the paper
Working through and answering past questions is extremely useful. This should be one of the primary objectives of your study group. Read the examiner’s comments carefully so you understand what was required in a good answer. This is a major amount of work because you will need to cover the previous 5 years to pick up all these questions & there are 160 questions in a 5 year period. (The actual number of unique SAQs is lower because of these repeat questions).

[2] Performance of candidates (as judged by Pass %) does not always improve on Repeated Questions
This suggests that not many registrars actually prepare answers for SAQs on previous papers.

[3] If you consider the Repeat Questions on each of these papers, then the average pass rate of these questions when previously asked was about 50%
SAQs which were poorly answered do not seem to be selected out to be repeated on future papers.
