Introduction

This brief accommodation listing is designed to assist registrars who are attending a Short Course at the College Building at 50 Water Street, Spring Hill. Spring Hill is an inner city suburb of Brisbane which has undergone a bit of a redevelopment boom in recent years. It is about 15 minutes walk to the centre of the city and about 15 minutes walk in the other direction to the Medical School & Royal Brisbane Hospital. The Central Medical Library at the hospital is open in the evenings and some have used this as a place to study after-hours.

• This is your responsibility: You have to make your own accommodation arrangements & payments - This is NOT included in the Course Fees.

• The prices & details below were correct in January 2001 so the prices are out of date now. These listings are provided as a service to you and we receive no payment or any benefit or commission of any sort from anybody.

• The list is based primarily on the comments of previous groups of registrars and we cannot give any guarantees about any of the places listed here. Some registrars in previous years have negotiated reduced rates for a 2 week stay in some places.

• Please be aware that there are some cheap accommodation facilities in Spring Hill & the neighbouring Fortitude Valley that cater to 'permanent residents' and these are generally not recommended.

• Air Conditioning? The weather in Brisbane in May is generally very pleasant & air conditioning is not required to keep cool.

• When exploring your accommodation options, check whether the room has a suitable table/desk & chair which can be used for studying in the evenings.

• If you prefer hotel accommodation rather then the apartment style listed below, then the Novotel Hotel (4 star) is the closest, then the Sheraton (est 10 mins walk) then any of the city hotels (est 15 to 20 minutes walk). These hotels may negotiate lower rates for longer stays.)

Royal Brisbane Hospital Accommodation Centre ?? (at the Royal Brisbane Hospital)
Comment: This is a longer walk from the venue but I understand it is cheaper and quite comfortable and it may be worthwhile checking availability and costs. This was popular a few years ago but then the hospital tightened up availability if not attending a hospital course. Best to indicate that you are coming from interstate/overseas to attend an 'Anaesthetic Course' and just indicate the dates.
