I think there's probably more scope for learning new things in anaesthesia than there
is room in most of our comfort zones. Just got a letter from CareFlight yesterday
suggesting that I might want to do a traineeship with them. What about using the
ultrasound? Or perfecting a regional technique? I haven't done so many stellate
ganglion blocks that I'm tired of them.

I agree with the poster who said money is not everything. If you like the day to day
stuff that you do and find that interesting (or at least find interesting things to do
during long plastics procedures or do scope lists with a friend so you can gossip) then
you'll be happy in your job. None of us (nor the surgeon you spoke to) can decide that
for you.

If you find anaesthesia boring (and some do) then don't do it. If you find surgery
interesting and are happy living your life in the remaining 88 hours of the week,
then by all means do surgery. I like surgeons. Can't understand why they would do
surgery, but happy that they do otherwise I couldn't do anaesthesia!

Good luck with your decision.
