I can see how u can be so easily persuaded given that in medicine compliments are very few and far between...you probably also dont want to let this surgeon down after his comments... However as tempting as more money is seriously you do the extra time to earn it much much more . I know of many surgical registrars who regret their choice and have turned to anaesthetics or other specialties. It seems at this stage u really dont have a burning desire to do a particular specialty. So i guess to decide u may also want consider what u want your lifestyle to be like......300-500K a year with a good lifestyle or 400-1000k for a shit lifestyle /superspecialised fiels of surgey/clinics/on calls/rooms/staffing issues/chronic patients/ward rounds etc etc for me there is only one choice. For me resuscitating a patient at MET calls, or securing that difficult airway in the emergency department /keeping a sick patient alive during their procedure seems far more rewarding than resecting an appendix or a DHS for a demented gomer in a nursing home (why on earth we do this as opposed to a morphine infusion is beyond comprehension) Anyhow good luck with your choice
