Problems with posting when using Norton Firewall?

A reader has posted the following information to avoid this problem:

Here's a workaround that I've used to make NIS work with this site. When you click on the "reply link", Norton Firewall thinks that since it's coming from an .exe file (check the "reply" URL), that it is a Microsoft Internet Information Server (Web Server) attack.

The solution involves telling NIS that you trust this site (www.anaesthesiamcq.com, or rather its associated IP address) and so it allows this site through, but no other sites or IP addresses.

  1. Open Norton Intnernet Security
  2. Under "Internet Security" click on "Personal Firewall" then click on "Configure"
  3. Click on the "Networking" tab
  4. Under "Trusted", click on "Add"
  5. Choose "Individual IP" and type in my numerical IP address (This changes at times for various reasons: check the numbers listed against "Remote Name" on my most recent post to the Bulletin Board. (You will need to get this from someone else if you don't have access.)
  6. Click OK twice
  7. Close Internet Security
